Attention 8th Graders and 8th Grade Families
We need photos of you and your classmates from elementary school.  These will be used to create you 8th grade memories video.  We would like to have photos of ALL 8th grade students.  Any photos from class parties, field trips, or other activities that have multiple students in them will work great.  Please bring your photos to Ms. Gibbs in an envelope with your name on it.  They can be brought in print form or on a USB or CD.  All photos will be returned to you.  You can also email pictures to dgibbs@spsmail.org.  We want your 8th grade celebration to be memorable!  The more pictures we get, the better!  Please have these turned in by Friday, May 3rd!  If you have any questions please ask Ms. Gibbs.

Tuesday, May 21-  8th-Grade Promotion and Honors Program at
Hillcrest High School in the Auditorium
                               Time:  10:00 a.m.

The 8th-grade promotion and honors recognition program will begin at 10:00 a.m.  This is a “dress up” occasion and students should dress accordingly.  Each student will receive a packet of certificates for recognition to various activities they have participated in or for honors they may have received.  Students will meet no later than 9:30 a.m. to prepare for this event.   Noise makers are NOT allowed.  School will be in session at Hillcrest on that day and their students will be taking finals, so PV families/students will need to stay in the auditorium at all times and will not be able to congregate in the student center before, during or after the promotion program (restrooms and water fountains will be available).  Please be aware that food or drinks (including coffee, water bottles, etc) are NOT allowed in the auditorium at Hillcrest.

Entrance to Auditorium:  Please enter the building through the doors that are located east of the main entrance and go directly to the auditorium.  Please do not try to enter through the main entrance of the school.

Parking at Hillcrest:  As you turn off Grant Street onto Smith Street, please use the first parking lot on the right.

Eighth-grade students who have failed to complete the requirements for 8th-grade will be excluded from this promotion activity.  If your student is in this category, you will be notified prior to May 21.

Our hope is that these events provide our student body an opportunity to reflect on the good year they have had, and will provide the staff and parents a chance to tell the students how much we appreciate them.

Below is a link to volunteer opportunities for students ages 11-18.  Check it out!

Morning Student Drop-off Procedure
Please do not drop your students off at school prior to 7:30 AM.  There is no supervision available for students until the day starts at 7:30 AM.  Thank you for taking care of this.

Updated PV Chromebook Policy

Since chromebooks are provided by the district as a tool for your student’s learning, we want them to have it charged and ready to go each day at school.  When students have to visit the library to get a loaner chromebook, they miss valuable instruction time.  Parents, we want to partner with you to set your student up for success in the classroom.  Please help remind your student to have their chromebook, and have it charged.

The following scope and sequence will be followed beginning second quarter.

1st Loaner Checkout– Warning

2nd Loaner Checkout – Warning
3rd Loaner Checkout – Lunch Detention & Parent Contact

4th Loaner Checkout – Chromebook must remain at school until end of quarter

Sports Announcements
Track has started! Our student-athletes and coaches are having a great season!

Leadership in Action
Leadership in Action is a club sponsored by the Hillcrest High School JROTC designed to build confidence, team-work, leadership and discipline in participating students.  The club is open to all PV MS students.  The group will meet the first Wednesday of each month at PV from 3:00-4:15 PM.

ATTENTION Parents of 7th Grade Students
7th Grade Students can participate in MSHSAA sports through the SPS school district.  In order for students to participate during first quarter next year as 8th graders, they must have fewer than two failing grades during fourth quarter.  Students who receive out of school suspension will be suspended from events for 14 days for the first offense, and for the remainder of the school year for a second offense.

Student Pick-up from Events/Games
With students attending games at events at PV and other venues, we wanted to share the rules for student pick-up.  For other events, students will be communicated a pick-up time from the administrator at half-time of the second game or near the end of a track meet.  Students must be picked up within 15 minutes of the end of the games, or they will not be allowed to attend the next game.

Student Expectations Video
We shared this behavior expectation video with all PV Middle School students so we could clearly express our expectations for their behaviors in the cafeteria, hallways, and bathrooms.

Teacher Recognition Form
We have amazing teachers and staff here at PV.  We often get asked by parents, what is the best way to recognize our wonderful group of teachers and staff members.  One way is to complete an Employee Recognition Form to show your appreciation.  There is no recognition that is too small, and we thank you for taking time to recognize and celebrate our teachers and staff.
